Nothing ever comes to one, that is worth having, except as a result of hard work.

Our Greatest Political Failure -- Immigration

Years ago our government in all its wisdom established laws to facilitate this process to naturalize those coming to our shores wanting a better life. These were and are not bias laws in anyway. Rather laws to protect immigrants and their assimilation into society.

These laws would pave the way and provide the necessary tools to become part of the American dream:

  • A period of continuous (legal) residence and (legal) physical presence in the United States.
  • An ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Good moral character.
  • Knowledge of the principles of the U.S. Constitution.
  • Favorable disposition toward the United States.

Immigration to these United States of America is worth seeking for those willing to abide by its laws.  Yes it takes hard work but it is worth having.

Politicians Not Enforcing the Law of the Land

We are very puzzled and concerned over the issue of immigration in this Country and its current and future effect it has on America. We are also puzzled and concerned that many political leaders make decisions that best fit their current term in office rather than what’s good for America in the long term.

If there is one great political failure in American it is immigration, or in plain talk “illegal immigration”. What could have been a rather easy problem to fix years ago now takes on the face of a truly complex issue. This in part due to our elected officials over the years not enforcing the laws of this Country, thereby failing to up hold their oath of office.

Illegal immigration to this Country is affecting this Nations overall security, education, health care, law enforcement, public services all at the taxpayer’s expense and current and future welfare of this Country.

We are all immigrants to this Nation of ours. We all have a common language. We all have the same opportunities presented to us if we take charge of our lives and fortunes. This is not a racist issue, a religious issue or Democrat or Republican issue. This is an American issue that sadly is being ignored by our elected officials to the detriment of our Country.

All we ask from our politicians is to enforce the laws of the land!

Sadly we have as a Nation failed somewhere in our history to abide by these qualities. Sadly we talk about our “greatest generation” in the past tense rather than hoping to create a new “greatest generation”.

There are many who come to this Country for what it offers. Opportunities, love of its ideals and freedoms. They come to assimilate and become part of the fabric that has made this Country great. But because of our immigration laws not being enforced we have and are creating a Country that has many tongues, lack of respect, foreign countries within cities, and have taking away the desire to work for one’s right to become a citizen of this great Nation.

It pains us to see and hear in cities in American children in grade school not able to speak English. It pains us that their parents place no emphasis on the desire to learn English. Why should they? Unfortunately we as a Nation are creating yet another generation of unskilled workers who because of our inaction and lack of will to enforce the law of the land will be negatively affected in the long run.

Yes there will be a few that break from this pattern and truly become something but the numbers that won’t strip away and diminish any such achievement. Unfortunately we have and are rewarding those that are failing or don’t have to achieve rather than those that do legally.

This political failure or lack of will to enforce the laws of this Nation has also created the attitude of “don’t worry about it, no one’s going to do anything about it”. We sometimes wonder if inside the “beltway” politicians really know what’s going on in this Country. How the attitudes about immigration have and are changing not in a positive but negative way.

The closing of emergency rooms for example in California is just one example. It’s not that is just easier to take a family member to the emergency room for a “non-emergency related issue” it’s that fact that they know they will not have to pay for the services rendered. We have created that perception and reality.

Have you looked at the drop out rates in high schools? At the literacy rates? We ask you is this because we have created an environment compromising our hard work ethics with an out of balance compromise to help out those here illegally. This unwritten policy does not help out those playing by the rules – it hurts them.

And what about those immigrants who come to America for the reasons are parent’s did? At what point do they say “why should I live by the laws when so many are circumventing it”. Do are politicians ever look at how frustrated they may be? Politicians are in effect are taking away their hope.

We truly feel sorry for the poor that are here legally and trying to make it. They have and are playing by the rules yet they suffer from jobs being offered to those coming to the U.S. illegally, from local services being reduced or eliminated all together, and an environment in school that is not conducive to a good education.

We said this is now a complicated problem created by lack of political will, lack of attention and ignoring what you have been elected to do in office – up holding the laws of the land.

It’s a problem that now touches and affects services, education, healthcare, jobs, revenues, and the Nation’s security and turns its back on poor Americans.
