Idea OneStart immediately by enforcing our immigration laws. Granted we have ignored, bent and twisted them to suite our needs or interests but they did work at one time enabling our Country to remain competitive, strong and secure. Many of us right now and our parents are shining examples of this. Nothing is free. The right to become a U.S. citizen and its benefits should not be either -- all immigrants much work toward this achievement. Idea TwoIf you want to expedite citizenship fine, just don’t relax it. Work with the current laws to improve the process but do not relax its basic requirements. By relaxing the requirements you have and will create yet another generation of individuals who are “handicapped” in the basic skills needed to become a productive part of society. Idea ThreeTemporary Guest Worker Program. Create a program that if effective and works. Limits to the number of guest workers per year allowed entry into the U.S. Must apply and meet certain criteria (such as no felons, criminal record, watch lists) to obtain a guest worker card good for a period of no more than one year. Can reapply multiple times based on criteria and lawful conduct in U.S. No exceptions! Numbers of guest workers fluctuates based on employment needs of U.S. firms (agriculture/non-farm labor estimates). If a Temporary Guest Worker wishes to become a U.S. citizen and has acted and displayed qualities that current immigration law subscribes to the number of years in the program counts as credit toward becoming a citizen. These Temporary Guest Workers pay NO Federal Income Tax and NO Social Security Tax. The only tax that can be collected is by the State where they work since the overall burden is on the local cities and states and in lieu of what would be paid into Social Security (a to-be-determined percentage) Healthcare Tax again going to individual states where taxes are collected. Nothing, repeat nothing, goes to the Federal government for this type worker. Taxes go directly to the States. These cards would also indicate if they can operate a motor vehicle. States giving illegal immigrants drivers licenses is a terrible idea! Idea FourAnyone not a U.S. citizen does not quality for Social Security and does not require a number (a series of numbers are already included on the Guest Worker Card). There is currently too much fraud in the system right now with "bogus" Social Security numbers. No work permit, no green card, no Temporary Guest Worker Card you are here illegally and will be deported immediately. If you are here illegally one gives up the right to EVER participate in the Guest Work Program. We need rules and laws to protect American citizens not rules and laws to protect those how elect to enter this Country illegally. |
Cost of EducationCalifornia spends almost $2.2 billion annually to educate illegal immigrant students in grades K-12 -- enough to pay the salaries of 41,764 teachers, or 14 percent of California's teachers. Did you know? The Inter-American Development Bank, an international financial institution that specializes in lending money to some of the poorest countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, reported recently that Latinos living outside their native country send back a record $45.8 billion to their homelands in 2004. That was nearly 20 percent higher than the amount of money they sent back home in 2003, when the figure reached $38 billion. |
